But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God. ~ John 1:12

The Bible should always be read prayerfully under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, in John 14:26, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you." Speaking of the disciples, Luke 24:45 tells us Jesus "opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures."

1 John 2:27 states, "But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him." And the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 2:14, "But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so  (Acts 17:10-11).
